Getting to the Chiang Mai, 700 km north-west of Bangkok by airplane is not a problem as Chiang Mai city maintains an international airport on its very doorstep. There are currently direct international flights (most of them served by Thai Airways) from Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Vientiane and some major German cities (with the second biggest German airline LTU) as Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf and Hamburg. Also you can fly in from Burma, Kunming or from Abu Dhabi. Besides domestic flights from Bangkok, you can fly in from major Thai cities like Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai , Nan, Khon Kaen , Phitsanulok and the highly recommended connection from and to Phuket which allows to go first trekking in the north and then fly straight to the beach in the south of Thailand.
