BY CAR ( approimately 8 hours) from Bangkok

Route 1;- Take Highway No.1 (Phahonyothin), then take Highway No.32 ( Asian Highway) which passes Phra Nakhon, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong and Nakhon Sawan, then take Highway No 117 to Phitsanulok and No 11 to Lampang, Lamphun, and then Chiang Mai. The distance is 695 kilometres / 432 miles

Route 2: Follow route 1 until Nakhon Sawan, and continue on Highway No 1 passing Kamphaeng Phet, Lampang to Chiang Mai. Total distance 696 kilometres / 433 miles

BY BUS from Bangkok

There are standard, 2nd Class and 1st Class Air-Con buses departing for Chiang Mai, daily ( 8.00am to 21.00) from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mochit 2). Call 02 936 3600, or 02 936 2852 or 02 937 8055 for an up todate time table or travel information. There are private bus companies that operate a service to Chiang Mai, which can be book from most Tourist outlets throughout Bangkok, the journey time can take up to 12hours, depending on traffic conditions

Buses around the province

If you are planning to travel around the region from Chiang Mai, use Chang Phuak Bus Terminal, Chotana Road. Tel: 053 211 586. destinations include Mae Rim, Mae Taeng, Chiang Dao, Chaiprakan, Fang and Mae Ai. some buses continue up to the northernly province Tha Ton.

If you wish to travel outside Chiang Mai province, use Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station, Tel: 053 242 664, destination include The Golden Triangle, Mae Sai Chiang Rai, Nan, Phayao, Phrae, Lampang, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and many more.

BY TRAIN

Express and Rapid Trains operateed by State Railways of Thailand leave for Chiang Mai from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Station, there are 6 departures a day from 8.00am - 10.00pm. BY AIR

Domestic airlines including Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Air Asia, Nok Air, operate daily flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Tel: Bangkok 02 628 2000 or Chiang Mai 053 211 044-7

Thai Airways also operate domestic flights from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Phuket. for more Information visit www.thaiairways.com
