Doi Suthep Temple One of Chiang Mai's greatest attractions is Do Suthep , a 1,601m (5,250ft) high peak with panoramic views over the city and the river, Mae Ping. Climb the steep 300-step stairway which is magnificently flanked by undulating, seven-headed serpents or nagas leading to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep , perched on top of the mountain. Virtually any hotel or tour company in Chiang Mai will arrange a visit to Doi Suthep which whilst the easiest way to visit you may pay extra for the trip than if you visit independently and your time there may be limited. Catch a Songthaew or take a Tuk Tuk up to the foot of Doi Suthep - from there you have the choice of a cable car or a 300 step walk to the peak.
