Chaweng, with its 7km of fine white sand beach, inviting beautiful blue waters and well developed seafront, is the islands most popular town. Chaweng has some of the best Resorts and Hotels, and the finest Thai and International restaurants, as well as Bars,Nightclubs.
Shopping is well catered for in the main town area, with boutiques, gift shops, and come nightfall, many market stalls and traders.
As diving and other marine sports, is extremely popular on the island, many Dive operators and shops have located along Chaweng Beach, here you will find every outlet.
Chaweng Beach certainly is a paradise location, offering full on activities, but remaining relaxed, perfect for a lazy tropical day, followed by a romantic dinner, with breathtaking views of Chaweng Bay and the Gulf of Thailand by night.
It is not surprising that this area, has become such a sort after marriage ceremony and honeymoon venue.
Lamai Beach
Located 10km from Chaweng, Lamai beach is smaller, less populated and quieter, the beach of soft white sand stretches for only 2km, which tends to be less crowded, as its not so sheltered, the sea become slightly more active, and more exciting for the many watersports, Lamai also holds rocky outcrops, attracting local marine life, making it a popular venue for fishing, and perfect for snorkeling around the coral.
Accomodation facilities are very good around Lamai, Hotels to suit every budget, with the typical Thai-style chalet bungalow very common, many of the resorts provide excellent facilities for the health conscious, with Spa’s, Thai- Foot massage, Tai Chi, and Herbal centres situated in the area.
Although nightlife is quieter, you can still find many bars, with live music, Karaoke, and sports bars.
