Taxi's are usually a good deal, although you might sometimes have to insist that they use their meter. If they refuse to use the meter pretend to take another taxi. Big hotels will usually offer you their limo, but this will be more expensive of course.
In Bangkok, an average taxi trip will cost between 50 to 70 Baht. This is made up by: 35 Baht starting fee, this includes the first 2 km, 2 Baht every 400 metres and 1 Bht per minute waiting in traffic jam or if speed is less then 6 km/hour. Generally speaking, taxis are not more expensive and safer than tuk-tuks.
