Koh Samet( or Samed) is a small  island of approximaty 7Km in length and only 5km wide, located just 7Km from the mainland of the Rayong province. It may not be one of Thailands largest islands, but it can certainly match some of the better known islands for idyllic and wonderful white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, many regard the beaches towards the north-east area of the island, as the best in Thailand.

On the west side of the island, you will find white sand, so fine in texture it resembles flour, making it stunningly clean and pure, but be aware this sand will play havoc with your mobile phone or MP3 player, good advice is to leave these 21st century toys in your hotel and enjoy the natural beauty.

The Island itself, has since 1981, been incorporated as part of the Khoa Laem Ya national park, a natural home to stunning wild life such as spectacular butterflies, exotic birds, monkeys and gibbons.

Although the island has a reputation of total relaxation, with a stress free environment, where many a talented artist has found peace and tranquility, there is no shortage of marine sports and activities, Some of the best diving locations can be found around the Koh Samet coastline, and the tiny islands that lie to the east of Samet. Windsurfing, Sailing, Fishing and Kayak Canoeing can all be arranged on the island, if you do ever become bored with marine activities, Mountain Biking is becoming increasingly popular.

Koh Samet is approximatly 200 kilometres from Bangkok,  a drive of roughly 2- 2.30 hours, and only 1.30-2 hours from the new airport, making Koh Samet very accessable, you will need to get a ferry from the small fishing village of Ban Phe which is about 20 km east of Rayong town. the ferry takes about 30-45mins, private hire boats are also avialable, that will take you to various locations around the island.

Koh Samed can become quite busy, especially on Thai national holiday’s and  the week-ends, many people from Bangkok visit this island paradise, for a getaway retreat, and marine sports.
