Phuket Nightlife
The Night life in Phuket involves three main area’s Patong, Kata Beach and the area around Soi Bangla, the scene here is still loud and raunchy, but not as up front and full on as maybe Pattaya or the red light area’s of Bangkok.
Patong Beach is the main area for adult oriented nightlife in Phuket, here located within a radius of half a kilometre there are over 150 bars, pubs, discos and Ago- go bars, located mainly around Soi Bangla, which runs between the Beach Road and Rat-U-Thit Road. Here you will find Soi Seadragon, Eric, Crocodile and Gonzo.
The pubs, bars and Ago-go bars of Patong Beach are the most popular night time destinations on the island. They give the town its unique flavour of a lively, fun place until long after the sun goes down.
Kata & Karon
The Kata/Karon area is a smaller, quieter, version of Patong and caters more to Scandinavian visitors. There are a few bar lanes located there, but no large discos. Rawai, on the southern tip of the island, is a sleepy beach town during the day, but has plenty going on after dark. Rawai beach is lined with dozens of small and medium sized bars and many of them tend to bend the rules regarding closing times.
Bars and Pubs
Lined up next to each other in long rows around Soi Bangla, the bars and pubs of Patong Beach are probably the most popular night time destination, Most of the bars are small and simple with stools or benches and some kind of roof. The music can be loud and often very mixed as each bar has its own stereo system. The volume of music can make conversation difficult but a fun time is to be had by all.
The atmosphere is easy and relaxed as it is very easy to take a seat in one of the many bars or pubs and enjoy people-watching, there is always a sea of human beings moving around you. the girls are always very friendly and fun to be with as they try to entice customers into the various venues
There is a wide variety of bar sports to play with any of your new found friends. games such as banging a nail into a tree stump with a special hammer are quite popular and can get quite funny after a few of beers. Connect Four, Backgammon or the Thai version of Ka Plunk are also in vogue. Some of the slightly larger bars have pool tables, giving you the opportunity to play a few frames with a gorgeous Thai Girl, more fun than just drinking.
A visit to the bars and pubs of Patong is for many the ritual by which they begin the nightly party.
Phuket Ago-go
Ago Go Bars are alive and well in Patong Beach. You will find many of them located within a very small radius of each other. AGo Go Bar is a bar where you watch young Girls, clad in G-Strings, Gyrate around a shiny steel poles to the beat of modern music. The Girls are not owned, controlled or pimped by any of the owners. That the girls sometimes go off with men or women is a decision that is made between the girls and any who visit the bar.
The girls interact with customers when they are not dancing and if they get on well with any customer, the customer may well pay their bar fine Many girls act as escorts showing those new to Patong Beach a good time. They are able to show you where you can enjoy some late night dining, play pool or darts in one of the many beer bars or just go out for a fun night dancing.
For the real ragers, drinkers, and party animals I’m sure you will find many girls who are willing to show you around the late night party area down on Soi Sunset which kicks into action after 3.00 am in the morning Soi Sunset should really be renamed to Soi Sunrise because this is when the party finishes.
