Pubs
There are many traditional Uk, American, Irish and European Style pubs, throughout Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. although some can have a selection of ladies who are available, the vast majority are Non- Naughty bars, they are the type of places where you would feel comfortable taking your new date for a cosy drink and a chat, or where you could go to watch your favourite sport or watch a live band.
A lot of these pubs have Hostess who will look you, but a word of warning, these girls may not be actively involved in the sex industry, and may get offended if approached, don’t take it for granted that every Thai girl you met is working, and up for it!
Most Pub type bars will serve food and even if they don’t , the girls working in the bar will certainly be able to arrange food for you with the local restaurants.
Beer Bars
The majority of Beer bars are located in within a complex, generally open aired but with a sheltered roof. You could find up to 20 bars in one small area, which is very common in Pattaya. Each bar tends to have its own Hi Watt sound system, resulting in fierce competition for the loudest tracks played, forget any idea of watching your must see footie match in a beer bar, specially as you have a number gorgeous young ladies to look at, most bars have a chrome pole and a small raised stage, so the girls can perform for the customers, but unlike Ago go bars the girls will be clothed, but still have all the seductive moves, Many Thai Girls seem to be hidden extroverts, once up on stage with an audience, they enjoy themselves.
Not all, but a large number of bars are horseshoe in shape, with only bar stool seating, here you can enjoy a cool beer and maybe play a game with the girls working in the bar. Some popular games are connect four, wood and dice games, hit spikes with a hammer and backgammon (but take note gambling is illegal in Thailand) which is just as well, these girls play every night and get pretty experienced. If you like the girl and enjoy the game you can buy her a drink. Do it! because she earns very little money, if you buy her a drink, she will receive a small commission, for you its small money. (120 Baht), but it can help boost her income.
Beer bars are great entertainment, even if you are alone, turn up to your favorite bar and you will not be alone for long, you’ll soon know which girls are working the Pay to Play scene.
AGoGo
Go Go Bars in Thailand now have a legendary reputation, a place where you can go a see many naked or nearly naked young Thai girls dancing, some large bars employ anything up to fifty girls, It may take the newcomers some time to figure it out, but this is how it goes. The girls dance with the help of a chrome pole, some will give it 100% others will just shuffle around the pole, at the end of each track of music, the girls then move up the line to the next pole, until they reach the final dancing position, they then have a short break, and be free to sit and talk with customers until it is their turn to perform again again. The girls are usually divided in 2 (sometimes 3) groups that take turns dancing.
Thailands Ago go bars are usually set up with the stage, or stages, at the centre (or off to the side in a very small bar) and seating placed around it, often in benches, if a bar is crowded it can be difficult to find a seat. The waitresses are very attentive at these places and will do their best to find you a seat. The larger bars have maybe two or three stage area’s.
Its not good form to sit in Ago Go bar and nurse one beer for the night, and get a free show. Staff are employed to check customers progress on the drinks, and you will be politely asked to order a beer, or leave if you overstay too long enjoying the free show.
Most of the girls dancing at the Ago go bars have to appear on stage at certain times determined before their shift for the evening begins. Even if you have purchased your favorite girl a “lady drink” and be engrossed in conversation, don’t be surprised if your go go girl, suddenly jumps up and heads for the stage, if you want her to stay with you will have to bar the bar fine.
Currently the law does not allow total nudity, but some out of the way bars still have the girls fully naked, and some bars will get round the problem with special designed bikini bottoms. Most of the girls will wear garters around their legs, so if you enjoy a particular girl you can tip her. Any attempt to touch the ladies is strictly not allowed while she is on stage, as are any attempts to photograph the show, do not be surprised if you are politely searched when you enter a bar.
The procedure to take a lady out of the bar, is the same as in a beer bar, a bar fine has to paid, which in Ago go bar can be more expensive (500 – 600baht) , some of the more attractive and seductive dancers will charge more again.
For a long time it was thought that most of the girls where forced into naked Ago go dancing by ruthless bar owners, and become slaves to the sex industry, but this is not so, the girls enter the go go scene willingly, as the financial rewards can be very high by Thai Standards, these days it can even be thought prestigious, to be attractive and sexy enough to be a Ago Go dancer.
Pubs, Bars and Ago Go’s use the same system of payment for drink. When you take your seat you are given a little pot, called “A BIN” when you receive your drinks, a receipt/ docket is place in the your bin, you will also get a docket for any lady drinks or bar fines you want to pay, when you are ready to leave, ask the waitress to “CHECK BIN”, there of course Thai language ways to ask for your final bill. But everyone knows “Check Bin”, Tips are not mandatory, but its regarded as good form.
Night Clubs
The Club and Discothèque scene in Thailand is very good, and very similar to that in the UK, some good clubs charge an entrance fee, some are membership only, but with short term membership avialable.
Don’t think for one minute, you will only hear dated dance tunes, or un-skilled DJ’s, The Thai dance scene is well up there with the best in the world, you will hear some crack’n mixes. dress sense in the clubs does tend to be casual, and often shorts will be allowed, many clubs do not have a Check Bin policy, but buy at the bar as with UK clubs.
The Girl scene varies from club to club, but it’s never as direct as in Beer bars and Ago go’s, maybe because most customers have already found their companion for the evening by the time they get to the club. Some of the girls that do work in the clubs, are often freelancers, (girls that do not work for a set bar and are free agents) many of these girls are extremely attractive, and will demand more money, although you will not have to pay the customary a bar fine, unless of course the girl does work for club.
Drugs in Clubs, yes there is a drug club culture in Thailand, but be well warned, the penalties for procession of illegal drugs, are taken very serious, and often attract very lengthy prison sentences, compared with the UK. BE WARNED!!!!
