    Some Popular Dishes

    Most of the popular Thai dishes listed below, can be combined with different meats such as Beef, Chicken, Pork or Seafood, lamb is not generally found in Thailand.

    Often a Typical Thai meal will combine a single dish and then a number of complemented dishes that are shared

    Pad Thai (ผัดไท)Rice noodles pan fried with fish Sauce, palm sugar. lime juice or tamarind paste, chopped peanuts and egg, served mainly with either Chicken or Seafood

    Rad na (ราดหน้า) – Wide rice noodles in gravy, with Beef, Pork, Chicken or Seafood, (has its influence from China)

    Khao pad naem (ข้าวผัดแหนม) A fried rice with spicy fermented sausages, a popular dish from the issan region (northeast)

    Pad see ew (ผัดซีอิ๊ว) Stir-fried noodles with see ew dum (a thick soy sauce)
     
    Pad kee mao  (ผัดขี้เมา)Stir fried noodles with fresh Thai Basil

    Khao khluk kapi (ข้าวคลุกกะปิ)Rice Dish stir-fried with shrimp paste, served with a sweet pork and Thai vegatables such as lemon grass or Pak choi

    Khanom chin namya (ขนมจีนน้ำยา) – Round boiled rice noodles. served with curry sauces and eaten with fresh leaves and vegetables

    Khao soi(ข้าวซอย) – Crispy wheat noodles served in a sweet chicken curry soup, a Northern/ Issan Dish

    Khao pad gai(ข้าวผัดไก่) – Fried rice served with chicken

    Kaphrao gai (กระเพราไก่) – Chicken minced in a sauce of hot green chillies, garlic and fresh basil

    Gai himaphan(ไก่หิมพานต์) – Chunks of chicken combined with cashew nuts and chillies
     
     
    Thai Shared Dishes, served together with a single main dish and shared by all at the meal
     
    Tom yam (  ) – A Hot and Sour soup served with Beef, Pork.
              Tom yam Gai. When served with chicken
           Tom yam Goong / Kung. When served with Prawn.
           Tom yam Talae. When served with seafood such as shrimp, squid or fish.
     
    Gai Pad KhingGinger chicken.
     
    Tom kha gai (ต้มข่าไก่) – Hot and Sour soup with Chicken and Coconut milk.
     
    Satay (สะเต๊ะ)grilled meat mainly pork or chicken, served with cucumber salad and a peanut sauce, popular street or market food
     
    Gaeng phet (Red Curry) (แกงเผ็ด) - Hot meat curry made with a copious amount of chilli.
     
    Gaeng khiew-waan (Green Curry)( แกงเขียวหวาน) - Curry made with either Fish/ fishballs or chicken, and fresh green chillies and flavoured with fresh Thai Basil, one of the spiciest and popular Thai Dishes.
     
    Massaman curry(แกงมัสมั่น) – Curry made with roasted spices and large amount of Coriander, to give an Indian style, not typical of a Thai curry
     
    Neua pad prik(เนื้อผัดพริก) - Meat stir- fry mainly Beef, with a large amount of chillies
     
    Pad kaphrao(ผัดกะเพรา) - Stir-fried Beef, Pork or Chicken with Thai holy Basil
     
    Pad pak ruam(ผัดผักรวม) – Vegetable Stir-fry depending on avialablility and personal choice
     
    Panaeng(พะแนง) - Dry curry with dried spices
     
    Tod man(ทอดมัน) – Deep fried fishcakes, mainly made from Knifefish(Tod man pla kria,(ทอดมันปลากราย) or shrimp, (Tod man kung(ทอดมันกุ้ง)
     
    Boo Jah, Thai Crab Cakes - Crab cakes made with crab, pork, garlic and pepper, normally served with a spicy Sri Rachaa sauce, a sweet and hot nahm prik poa sauce or a red curry paste and chopped spring onion
     
    Choo-Chee Plah ga Pong – Fish, such a Snapper in a choo-chee (thick red curry)
     
    Som tam(ส้มตำ) - Papaya Salad, a basic mix of grated papaya, tomatoes, cucumber and vaious pastes, ground together, there are three main regional variations, and even variations within different  the regions
              Som tam poo(ส้มตำปู) - with salted black crab or small green crab
              Som tam Thai(ส้มตำไทย) – with peanuts dried shrimp and palm sugar
             Som tam plara(ส้มตำปลาร้า) - with salted fish, eggplants, long bean and   fish sauce, made very spicy, typical papaya salad in Isaan in the northeast
    Som tam, is also made with varying degree’s of Hot and spicy, Som Tam 1. Som tam 2 and Som tam 3.
     
    Larb(ลาบ) – A sour Salad including minced meat. onions, chillies, roasted rice powder.
     
    Namtok(น้ำตก) – Made same as Larb, but with beef strips
     
    Yam( ยำ ) - Name used for any variation of a sour salad
                  Yam wun sen(ยำวุ้นเส้น)- when made with glass noodles
              Yam talae(ยำทะเล)- when made with shrimp or seafood
     
    Tom saep(ต้มแซบ) - A Hot and Sour soup from Isaan, Northeast
     
    Gai yaung(ไก่ย่าง) - Grilled chicken, marinated in spices and chillie paste
     
    Khoa neow (Sticky Rice)( ข้าวเหนียว) - special rice that becomes sticky when boiled, used to dip into any dish, sauces or pastes
     
    Namprik num(น้ำพริกหนุ่ม) – A dipping sauce of roasted eggplant, green chillies, and garlic pounded together in a pastel and mortar
